Ensembles at MHS
Concert Bands
All band members participate in the traditional concert band ensemble. We have three bands - Concert Band (all freshmen playing music appropriate for their years of experience), Symphonic Band (performing mid level music), and Wind Ensemble (performing the highest level of music). The bands perform a winter concert in December and a spring concert in April. The bands also perform at ISSMA Organization Contest in April. We have a unit in January where all students participate in Solo and Ensemble. They either perform at the district event or in class. We often have students qualify for the state-level event. The bands join together in May for our annual May Festival of the Arts in The Cave (east gymnasium). They perform as one large concert band along with the choir and orchestra students.

Marching Band
Marching Band is part of the fall curriculum and required by all students in band. There are a few exceptions that can be discussed with a director. We feel that Marching Band is an important part of the high school band experience. Band Camp is a two week long experience that starts two weeks before the school year and meets four and a half hours per day. This is our time where we develop the fundamentals of marching band and prepare for our first performance. The Marching Cavemen perform at home football games and at the ISSMA Festival Class Marching Contest.

Pep Band is a voluntary activity that runs from early December through mid February. The Pep Band plays at Boys and Girls Basketball games and usually one wrestling meet. A night of Pep Band involves free dinner, a short rehearsal, and a loud, exciting atmosphere in the Cave. Pep Band is lots of fun for those involved.
The Pep Band has also performed at Bethel University Men's Basketball games as well as a Notre Dame Women's Basketball game.
